Holiday Gift Guide: Shopping for someone with chronic illness

As you might have read in my post Cooking with Arthritis I love my kitchen gadgets. They among other things are game changers for me. Below you will find my favorite things that help me live my best life with Psoriatic Arthritis, Psoriasis, Asthma, Migraines and would help with other chronic illnesses.

Holiday Cooking with Arthritis

Uutensil Stirr - The Unique Automatic Pan Stirrer - With LED Speed Indicator, Red

Chopping a salad or cutting a pizza can put a lot of pressure on your hands. I love using this rocker blade to chop lettuce for a big salad. The blade allows me to use my shoulders more reducing the need for grip strength giving my hands a break.

Ninja QB1004 Blender/Food Processor

Whether you are chopping, dicing, shredding or blending the Ninja Blender/Food Processor is a go to tool in my kitchen. I use it to shred chicken, dice onions, chop carrots and more.

Starfrit Rotato Express 2.0

For years I have helped with potato peeling for Thanksgiving and my hands do not thank me for it. I bought this affordable peeler to help me out. There are better ones out there but this one makes the holidays easier for me.

Arthritis Gifts

Grace & Able compression gloves

Grace & Able's compression gloves give you soft and gentle support reducing swelling and pain. I keep a pair of these in my car, at my desk and in my purse. I highly suggest rotating these into your road trip or work routine if you have arthritis in your hands or carpal tunnel. Bonus: Buy the chili red gloves and a percentage is donated to AiArthritis!

The Flax Sak hand and wrist wrap

Do you have pain in your hands or wrists? This heat/cold wraps fits right over your hand like a glove and leaves your fingers free allowing you to get heat or cold therapy when you need it and not interrupt tasks like typing, writing or texting. The packs also come with essential oils like lavender and chamomile for some added therapy.

Grace & Able Wrist Brace

Grace & Able's wrist brace is the best I have found so far. It is soft, has adjustable straps and even has a removable splint for added support. If you need a fully rigid brace this is not for you, but if you need extra support and compression during a flare, this brace is great. They even have colorful brace covers.

Asthma Gifts

asthma inhaler keychain

Do you take your inhaler everywhere? Do you carry a purse just to have it? Or worse do you lose it? I have had asthma for 15+ years and just discovered this inhaler keychain. I can clip it to my phone case, my belt loop, my keys or a clutch it wouldn't fit in and always have my inhaler where I need it. This one comes with a retractable cord so you can use it and not worry about dropping it or losing it.

explicit essentials shower steamer

Sometimes when your asthma is bad or being triggered by a cold you need a nice steamy shower and some eucalyptus. These are my favorite steamers. They take just the right time to dissolve, they smell amazing and the naming feels just right. They also come in other amazing scents.

pure essentials mini air purifier

If you travel for the holidays or work and have asthma, air quality might be top of mind, Staying with friends or family that smoke or in hotels that allow smoking can be challenging. This mini air purifier can go with you anywhere and even fits in your car cupholder. They even come in multiple colors!

Psoriasis or Eczema Gifts

Silipos gel socks

If you have Psoriasis or Eczema you are probably tired of putting on lotion and creams. While these products are not going to replace those, they do give you a break and make your skin feel moisturized and soft. They make socks, gloves, elbow, finger and ankle sleeves getting you moisture where you need it most.

aquaphor hand and foot masks

Aquaphor has been one of my go to moisturizers for decades whether its for my hands, lips, feet or knees it does its job. But if you like to put it on before bed you might ruined your sheets. These Aquaphor hand and foot masks solve that problem.

dead sea salt

Dead Sea Salt & Mud have been known to decrease Psoriasis symptoms due to its anti-inflammatory properties and the natural UV and high mineral levels of the Dead Sea. Short of travelling to the Dead Sea there are many products out there containing Dead Sea Salt, Water and Mud. Kenkoderm is one approved by the National Psoriasis Foundation.

Migraine and Headache Gifts

comfitech head and neck wrap

Headaches are super annoying and often unpredictable. Whether you get migraines, sinus headaches, or any other headache, these cold caps and shoulder wraps are amazing. The cooling compression and light blocking material help relieve symptoms like pain and light sensitivity. You can even put these in the microwave if you prefer a warm compress for your sinus headache.

Neck stretching pillow

If you have neck pain or neck tightness is a side effect of your migraines or headaches this pillow might help. Laying on it for just 10 minutes stretches and realigns your neck relieving pain and the effects of poor posture. Some even come with a heating pad offering more relief by increasing blood flow and relaxing the muscles.

Gifts for Anyone Battling a Chronic Illness

  • Massage Gift Card - Thai massages have been recommended to me several times because they incorporate stretching techniques into the massage.

  • Acupuncture Gift Card - Acupuncture is one of the most relaxing practices I have ever participated in. Not only do you get the benefits from Acupuncture itself but you get some forced meditation time because it is difficult to use your phone or anything else while there are needles in you. I recommend adding cupping to your appointment if it is an option.
